Robot Surgery Center in Dong Ah University Medical Center, as the first internal robot surgery center, was generated from the urology department of its own in 2003.
 Professor of Urology department, Kyung Tak Sung, had been in charge of the head of MIS center in Cleveland Clinic(US) through 2000~2002, making a contribution to study and spread the MIS technique using the laparoscope and endoscope in Urology over the world.

He participated in the robot surgery test and published the paper in the worldwide society to show the excellence of da Vinci robot which was the only surgical robot on sale in 2001, comparing with Zeus which is currently out-of-development.

Also, he showed the excellence of the internal medicine definitely by editing and writing about the surgical robot in Urology in the North American Scientific Surgery Medical Journal of worldwide renown

Introducing da Vinci robot, performing the operation in Urology, Surgery, Breast Surgery, Obstetrics & Genecology

Prof. Sung made a good contribution to spread the MIS in the country after he studied that in Cleveland Clinic and was back to Urology department at Dong Ah University Medical Center. In 2003, he performed the radical prostatectomy and cystectomy with the laparoscope for the first time in the country. Also, in the association with General Hospital (Singapore) which introduced da Vinci robot in Asia, he reported the robot surgery for the patient with the prostate cancer who was accompanied by himself in Singapore in 2004.

Prof. Sung has been arousing interest about the surgical robot through the lectures in many internal university hospitals, forecasting the robot surgery and emphasizing the excellence of da Vinci surgical robot since 2004. Thanks to his effort, about 20 da Vinci robots are brought in now, which does not fall behind the worldwide medical quality. Particularly, da Vinci robot is applied to prostate cancer most frequently. About the obstinate patients with gastric and colonial cancers, Korean surgical robots take pride in the highest level in the world.

Dong Ah University Medical Center set up the systematic Robot Surgery Center including the breast surgery and obstetrics & gynecology department, expanding the Robot Surgery Center within Urology department by bring in da Vinci surgical robot in 2007. It is performing the robot surgery for the gastric cancer, thyroid disease, colonial cancer, etc. in Surgery, esophageal cancer in Breast surgery, gynecological disease in Obstetrics & Gynecology, and prostate cancer, cystic cancer, kidney cancer, stricture of the urethra, etc. in Urology.

Connection between Robot Surgery Center and International Center… warming up inducing the patients from other countries

Many patients are concentrating on the Metropolitan area by the economic and cultural unbalance between the national capital region and country. The Robot Surgery Center in Dong Ah University Medical Center is paying attention to the world in such a condition. It had already performed the robot surgery for two Russian patients and is trying to improve the quality of service to the patients from other countries by opening International Clinic connected with robot surgery center.

The robot surgery is known as the high cost surgery because it is not covered by the insurance in the country. Therefore, The Robot Surgery Center is trying to solve this problem to improve the patients from other countries’ satisfaction by offering additional transportation fee or lodging service because they are also insured for the examination and operation.
