
National Cancer Center is the first and only institute for cancer research, treatment and education in Korea (Chief Director JinSoo Lee, http://www.ncc.re.kr). Since enactment of 'National Cancer Center Act' in January 2000, and the center's inauguration ceremony in June 2001, it's been contributing to the reduction of cancer. The center consists of research institutes, hospitals, and national cancer control institutes.
There are seven centers for most common cancers(Gastric cancer, liver cancer, lung cancer, colorectal cancer, breast cancer, uterine cancer and specific organs cancer,) and four centers for clinical trials, clinical specialty, cancer prevention & detection, and proton therapy.
Staffed by cancer specialists ranging from medical, surgical, radiological oncologists to oncology nurses, technologists and other support staff, each center tries its best to provide the patients with the best care by letting patients receive coordinated consultations and treatments. This system was designed to maximize customer satisfaction through a multidisciplinary approach to treating cancer.
The center for cancer prevention&detection offers specialized Check-up program emphasizing the prevention and early detection of common cancers in Korea - stomach, liver, lung, colorectum, breast, uterine cervix, thyroid, prostate, kidney, bladder, pancreas, and ovarian cancers, and of adult diseases including hypertention, diabetes and stroke as well. It also provides continued follow-up care of the examinees by the corresponding center of the NCC Hospital.
